Introducing Kalzip NatureRoof / by Guest User

The NatureRoof is underpinned by a fully engineered Kalzip system with an unbeatable pedigree. Every single component has been carefully selected for compatibility. Even if you were to decide to remove the NatureRoof years down the road, the Kalzip aluminum remains as a full roofing system.

This lightweight roofing system improves thermal performance and is kind on resources – essential features for intelligent and environmentally friendly architecture. By providing protection against heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, the internal environment is enhanced by more constant temperatures.

NatureRoof can also lead to dramatic improvements in air quality around the building and where large-scale roof greening occurs, to the air quality of entire conurbations.

Benefits & Features:

• Improved Thermal Performance • Improved Air Quality • Reduced Rainwater Run-off • Contributes to Lowering Urban Temperatures • 30% of Stored Rainwater Returned to Natural Cycle • Improved Acoustic Performance • Fully Recyclable • High Aesthetic Appeal • High ‘Feel Good’ Factor • Encourages Insect and Bird Life • Minimal Maintenance • Low Growing and Totally Self-Sustaining • Ease of Installation • Can be ‘Retro-fitted’ on Existing Kalzip Roofs • Permanently Resistant to Root and Moisture Penetration

Installation

The Nature Roof is supplied, delivered to site, installed and supervised only by trained contractors. It is a complete package developed exclusively as an extension of the Kalzip aluminium standing seam proposition. Kalzip provides everything from the structural purlins through to the plants themselves and an aftercare service.

High performance, lightweight and uniquely corrosion resistant due to its special clad alloy material, Kalzip can be implemented into a design with green roofing systems in mind. Not only does Kalzip provide the perfect substrate, it also neatly completes the unique ‘sustainability’ of the Nature Roof proposition - every single element of the underlying system is fully recyclable or re-usable - no landfill costs, no toxic waste at the end of the day.

When gauged across the lifetime of a building, the embedded energy costs of aluminium (taken into account when calculating the carbon dioxide budget) are less than those of other roof cladding materials.

Aftercare and Maintenance

One of the most common causes of green roofs underperforming is insufficient application of irrigation immediately after installation. a period of temporary irrigation directly after planting for all extensive and semi-intensive systems is recommended to ensure the newly installed green roof has the best possible start in life. Without this 6-8 week irrigation period, a green roof will struggle to establish, be more prone to erosion, and could look less visually appealing. Once this period has expired the irrigation is removed and the system will support the plants without further intervention and it is suggested that regular maintenance is carried out once or twice a year.

The Kalzip NatureRoof enables a safe green roof with minimal maintenance - low-growing, self-regenerating, drought-resistant sedum plants transform grey roof landscapes into flowering oases. Sedum plants are undemanding, they tolerate smoke and exhaust fumes and are resistant to frost and wind.
